世界读书日/ World Book Day

每年的4月23日是世界读书日，世界上有100多个国家会通过读书的方式，来纪念英国伟大作家威廉·莎士比亚和西班牙文献史家印卡·加西拉索·德拉维加。

在刚刚过去的一周，北京赫德学校用富有创意的方式吸引孩子们参与到阅读中来，与孩子们共沐书香。

World Book Day is a celebration of the gift of reading that has been enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. This special day was established by UNESCO on April 23, 1995, in honor of two great authors, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. This year, HDBJ Primarycelebrated World Book Day as part of our Literacy Week, and it was a week filled with creativity, engagement and, of course, lots of reading!

Our students participated in a variety of exciting activities to celebrate this special day. One of the highlights was the week-long reading challenge, where students read a variety of texts and even got their families involved in their reading adventures. To celebrate their efforts, students received star reader badges and certificates.

01 - Drop everything and read

Ouyang Xiu, a famous litterateur in the Northern Song Dynasty, once said: To establish oneself is to establish learning first, and to establish learning is to establish reading first. If you want to start your day"s study efficiently, there is nothing better than reading a good book in the sun in the morning!

During the buddy reading mornings, students from different classes paired up to read together. It was heartening to see older students take the time to read to their younger buddies and to witness the younger ones growing in confidence as they read aloud to their older peers. Not only did the children gain knowledge, but they also made new friends.

02 – Library decorating competition

Students were so excited when they knew that they could decorate their library with their favourite book elements. Each class chose a book to focus on and creatively decorated a space in the library and some class doors around that theme. Great fun was had by all, and the quality was outstanding.

Come and see the result! Pushing open the door, it really feels like entering the world in a book!

03 – Book swap

A favourite event over the years, and no different this year, was the book swap. Students brought in books they no longer needed at home, for which they received one token for each book brought in. With their tokens, they could ‘buy’ books that were brought in by other children.

A lively and engaging initiative, with students chatting and sharing their favorite reads with one another. A wonderful way to promote sustainable and enjoyable reading habits.

04- Character parade

The highlight of our Literacy Week was the book character parade. Students and teachers dressed up as their favourite book characters! What a joy to see our campus come alive with colours, smiles, and excitement as students paraded around with their classmates. Family members cheered them on, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter and a sense of community.

The book character parade was not only about dressing up, but it was an opportunity for students to share what they have been reading and swap recommendations with their classmates. The love of reading is something that should be shared, and the parade was a great way to showcase this.

Reading is a habit and an attitude. It is not just a skill, but a gift that can enrich our lives in countless ways. Let us keep reading and sharing our love of books with one another!

自由晨读

北宋著名文学家欧阳修曾说道：立身以立学为先，立学以读书为本。想要高效开启一天的学习，没有什么比在阳光下读一本好书更棒的早晨时光了！

自由晨读中，赫德小学部各年级还打破了年级的壁垒，大小孩子们共读一本书。高年级的哥哥姐姐们发挥榜样力量，也获得更多的自信；低年级的小可爱们也愉快地沉浸在阅读时光。

一本书读完，每个孩子不仅收获了知识、培养了阅读习惯，还交到了许多好朋友。

装扮图书馆

当知道可以用自己喜爱的图书元素装扮平日里最爱的图书馆，孩子们别提有多激动了！

图书馆内，老师们给每个班的孩子划分了一块区域，孩子们可以自由发挥创造力，以一本书为主题，用书中的情节装点着自己的小天地。快来看看最后的成果吧！推开门，真的仿佛进入了书中的世界！

图书交换

读书周期间，每个孩子会将自己已经读过的旧书带来学校，五本为上限。每本书可以为孩子们换取一枚“书币”。接着，老师会将孩子们带来的书全部展示出来，由孩子们自由地挑选其他小朋友推荐的书籍，再用自己手里的“书币”把它带回家。

孩子们都非常喜爱这种既创新又环保的阅读方式。看着自己喜爱的书，被其他小伙伴同样爱不释手的捧在怀里，此刻，图书交换给小娃娃们带来了分享与认同的快乐！

书籍巡演

书籍巡演可是读书周最盛大的表演了！老师和孩子们将自己装扮成最喜爱的角色，在一起快乐的巡游！

“你是什么角色？” “我在书里见过你！”孩子们笑成一团...此刻，读书的乐趣伸手便可触摸，孩子们也会带着更大的好奇心去探索书中更大的世界！

读书，是一个习惯，是一种态度。

我们还与家长共同合作，为孩子布置了有趣的家庭阅读挑战，让孩子们回到家后仍能保持阅读的惯性，自发主动地翻开书本，与爸爸妈妈共享亲子共读时光。

一本好书，就像心灵的“任意门”，打开它，让孩子们自由地探索古今世界，对话伟大的灵魂吧！
